"Green" electricity and a positive energy balance

Today, Carinthia's renewable energy sector generates about € 1.3 billion annually. It includes more than 130 businesses that employ over 5,000 people.

Technologies that produce "green" electricity include:

  • Solar energy
  • Bioenergy
  • Wind energy
  • Small-scale hydroelectric power
  • Biomass
  • Wood gasification

Because of using e-vehicles the energy balance slightly increases in Carinthia. It is not a scandalous number. Although "Lebensland Kärnten" produces green energy to improve the additional demand on electricity, however an equalized energy balance will be generated. The solar city, which was realized in cooperation with "Lebensland Kärnten", improves the additional demand on electricity in Carinthia caused by e-vehicles.

Eventually e-vehicles are only economic, if the electricity is produced by green energy sources. With the solar city St. Veit, the initiative "Lebensland Kärnten" has a committed project partner, which uses the power of the sun as an energy source.

Carinthia is testing region for the Mercedes e-Cell A-Klasse. These e-cars are tested concerning their suitability since 2011. With these cars 30 tonnes of CO2 in a calculation of 100g/km could be saved until now. "Lebensland Kärnten" is setting a sustainable trend with this project, which should convince the Carinthian of an emission-free transporting.

Moreover a citizen power plant will be built by the company energetica within the framework of the EU project CEMOBIL in cooperation with the Carinthian Government on the former site of Adidas in Klagenfurt-Viktring in 2013. With this EU project and an additional funding of the Carinthian Government citizens have the possibility to cheaply buy e-cars or use them in a very cost-effective way (total 66 e-cars). The beneficiary is obligated to produce photovoltaic electricity to cover the additional demand on electricity. Either the beneficiary participates in the citizen power plant or builds his individual photovoltaic plant. Due to the use of renewable energy it is possible to avoid 130 tonnes of CO2 by 990.000 km per year (15.000 km per every of the 66 e-carsr). This leads to an avoidance of two tonnes of CO2 per year and vehicle.

In this way, emission-free cars will not only terminate the destructive relation between mobility and fossil fuels; but they will also lead Carinthia, and the rest of the world, toward a future in which renewable energy sources will be our only energy sources.

Modern combustion engine technology nothing contributes to the development of renewable sources of energy. Since they have always been powered by petroleum, they do not offer an incentive to businesses and developers to investigate the possibilities of wind and solar energy.

E-Vehicles, on the other hand, have created a great new market for ideas and innovations in the field of energy production. This market, then, is driving the efforts to create renewable energy. If the market for e-Vehicles is growing, the market for "green" electricity is growing too. This leads to further incentives to investors and developers.
